حَدَّثَنَا النُّفَيْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ مَنْ نَصَرَ قَوْمَهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ الْحَقِّ فَهُوَ كَالْبَعِيرِ الَّذِي رُدِّيَ فَهُوَ يُنْزَعُ بِذَنَبِهِ ‏.‏

English translation

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: If anyone helps his people in an unrighteous cause, he is like a camel which falls into a well and is pulled out by its tail.

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهُوَ فِي قُبَّةٍ مِنْ أَدَمٍ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ ‏.‏

‘Abd Allah b. Mas’ud said : I went to the prophet (May peace be upon him) when he was in a skin tent. He then mentioned something similar to it.

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، عَنْ بِنْتِ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الأَسْقَعِ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ أَبَاهَا، يَقُولُ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْعَصَبِيَّةُ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَنْ تُعِينَ قَوْمَكَ عَلَى الظُّلْمِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Narrated Wathilah ibn al-Asqa': I asked: Messenger of Allah! what is party spirit? He replied: That you should help your people in wrongdoing.
