For what the thief's hand is not to be cut off

Sunan Abi Dawud · Book 40 · Hadith 4389

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ فَجَلَدَهُ مَرْوَانُ جَلَدَاتٍ وَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُ ‏.‏

This tradition has also been transmitted by Muhammad bin Yahya bin Hibban through a different chain of narrators. This version adds : Marwan gave him some lashes and let him go.
